Michelle Souliere is the author of Strange Maine: True Tales from the Pine Tree State, as well as editor of the Strange Maine Gazette and its companion blog, which was founded in 2005. She is also the owner of the Green Hand Bookshop in Portland, Maine. We caught up with Michelle about her new book and asked her to share one of her favorite Maine legends.
“Maine had a series of sightings in the 1890s of the so-called Specter Moose, a giant, pale beast whose growing legend threw visiting hunters into a tizzy for the next decade or two. These sightings centered mostly around Lobster Lake, and were the talk of not only local papers but also papers across the United States.”
Michelle is currently working on her next book with cryptozoologist Loren Coleman, Bigfoot in Maine.
